The Redmi K30 5G has plenty of high-end features, not least a 120 Hz display and 5G connectivity.

The Xiaomi Redmi K30, also sold as the POCO X2 in India, offers more than most contemporary mid-range smartphones. Not only does the device have a 64 MP main rear-facing camera and a 120 Hz display, but Xiaomi also sells a 5G model that features a Snapdragon 765G processor. The Redmi K30 5G has many qualities, but it suffers from drawbacks, too.

The Redmi K30 5G has been available since last month, having been announced in December. Xiaomi also released a 4G model, although more than just connectivity distinguishes the two devices. On the one hand, the Redmi K30 5G features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC, while the 4G model runs on a Snapdragon 730Ginstead.

The Redmi K30 5G brings more than just 5G connectivity to the mid-range market, though. Not only does the device pack a 120 Hz display, but it also a 64 MP main rear-facing camera. Specifically, Xiaomi has equipped all Redmi K30 variants with a Sony IMX686, a sensor that succeeds the popular IMX586.

In practice, the 120 Hz panel helps make everything look smoother on the Redmi K30 5G than it does on its competitors. However, you will likely only notice the difference if you have a 60 Hz smartphone to which to compare the Redmi K30 5G. Likewise, you may be hard-pressed to find a tangible benefit of having a 120 Hz display over a 90 Hz one, of which the OnePlus 7T is one recent example. It is worth noting that the OnePlus 7T has an AMOLED display to the LCD one in the Redmi K30 5G, although the former is considerably more expensive than the latter.

The 64 MP IMX686 impressed us during our tests, too. Its 5 MP macro and 2 MP depth cameras leave plenty to be desired, though. Overall, the Redmi K30 5G is an excellent mid-range smartphone that is held back by a few shortcomings. Please see our Redmi K30 5G review for our full thoughts on the device.
